Reports indicate that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their roles will likely occur in a brief glimpse ahead, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
