The Two Sergeants Instants Before the Attacker Got Stunned

A ranking policeman who rushed to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a knife attacker was granted the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a knife to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver following a road collision in that location in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Policeman attacked," the officer was heard to say over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video made public by the force revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade extended.

He struck the policeman who tripped and fell to the ground, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a safe opportunity, bringing the confrontation to an finish.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell received multiple deep cuts to his neck and more wounds to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.

Officials reported Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his colleague's bleeding before paramedics came.

This most recent honor arrives after the trio of policemen won organizational Courage Honors in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local union branch in April 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Bravery Award in summer 2024.

"The responses of the entire team ultimately protected one another and resulted in no bystanders suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per officials.
