The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any prominent awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition for anything that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
